HAYS COUNTY CONTEXT

Finding the right Hays County record

The Hays County District Clerk provides access to district-court records and instructions for requesting copies. The County Clerk directs divorce and family-court records inquiries to the District Clerk; its own Courts Division supports county courts, probate and guardianship matters. The county's online court search is a starting point for locating a cause number and case summary.

For an inheritance question, distinguish an existing probate case from a deed or other recorded property document. Those records can tell different parts of the story. The County Clerk's site links both court searches and property-record services. Bring the record you found and the question it raises, rather than assuming a search result resolves ownership.

OFFICIAL LOCAL RESOURCES

Find the right
starting point.

Use the court name and case number on your documents when looking for records. Official websites can help locate information; they do not replace a conversation about your legal situation.

LOCAL QUESTIONS

Before we talk.

Does a San Marcos address establish the county for my matter?

Do not rely on the city name alone. San Marcos extends into Hays, Caldwell and Guadalupe counties. Bring the relevant address and any existing court papers so the county and court can be checked for your particular situation.

What if I find a case summary but need the actual order?

Use the clerk's copy-request instructions and identify the cause number and document you need. A case summary is a useful reference, but it is not a substitute for reading the order itself.
